 The Civil Services Examination is indeed one of the toughest in the world, demanding perseverance, a focused strategy, and structured preparation. Candidates who couldn't make it to the Personality Test stage after the Mains should channel their disappointment into motivation. Here’s a detailed, hour-by-hour preparation plan for the forthcoming Prelims in May-June 2025.

Mindset and Approach:


Before diving into the schedule:


1. Acceptance: Accept the outcome of the Mains with grace. Use this experience to analyze what went wrong and focus on improving your weak areas.


2. Set Clear Goals: Prelims require a strategic approach with equal emphasis on General Studies (GS), Current Affairs, and CSAT.


3. Time Management: Stick to a disciplined schedule that balances studies, revision, mock tests, and physical well-being.


Preparation Strategy:


The Prelims syllabus is vast. Prioritize the following:


GS Paper I: History, Polity, Geography, Economics, Environment, Science & Tech, and Current Affairs.


GS Paper II (CSAT): Logical reasoning, comprehension, decision-making, and quantitative aptitude.


Optional Subject: Though optional is for Mains, devote some time weekly to stay in touch.


Daily Schedule (8:00 AM to 11:00 PM):


A sample day is structured to cover all aspects effectively:


Morning: High Productivity Hours


8:00 AM – 8:30 AM: Morning Routine


Light exercise or yoga and meditation to boost concentration.


Quick skim through newspapers like The Hindu or Indian Express.


8:30 AM – 10:30 AM: Core Subject Study (Static)


Focus on core subjects like Polity, Economy, or History.


For example:


Day 1: Polity – Indian Constitution (Laxmikant).


Day 2: Economy – Basics (NCERT + Ramesh Singh).


Day 3: History – Modern India (Spectrum).


10:30 AM – 10:45 AM: Break


10:45 AM – 12:45 PM: Current Affairs (Dynamic)


Study Monthly Current Affairs compilations (Vision IAS/Insights).


Focus on government schemes, environment issues, and international events.


12:45 PM – 1:30 PM: Lunch and Relaxation


Afternoon: Revision and Application


1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: Revision


Revise previously covered topics.


For example:


Revise Fundamental Rights after completing the Indian Constitution.


3:30 PM – 3:45 PM: Tea Break


3:45 PM – 5:45 PM: Optional Subject (Weekly 3 Days)


Maintain touch with your optional subject. Focus on scoring topics.


If your optional is Sociology:


Day 1: Thinkers (Emile Durkheim, Karl Marx).


Day 2: Social Stratification.


Day 3: Indian Society Issues.


Evening: Mock Tests and Analysis


6:00 PM – 7:30 PM: Mock Test (GS/CSAT)


Attempt a GS mock test or CSAT test thrice a week.


Analyze the paper thoroughly and identify mistakes.


7:30 PM – 8:00 PM: Dinner Break


8:00 PM – 9:30 PM: Weak Areas


Work on areas where you struggle (e.g., Environment, Art & Culture).


9:30 PM – 10:30 PM: CSAT Practice


Practice comprehension passages, reasoning questions, and basic maths.


10:30 PM – 11:00 PM: Wind Down


Write a journal or plan the next day. Sleep by 11 PM.


Weekly Schedule (Holistic Focus):


Key Tips:


1. Strengthen Static Knowledge


Polity: Study Indian Polity by Laxmikanth and solve past year questions.


History: Focus on Modern India. Supplement with Ancient and Medieval for map-based questions.


Geography: Combine NCERTs with GC Leong's Physical Geography.


Economy: Understand concepts like inflation, fiscal policy, and budget basics.


2. Stay Updated with Current Affairs


Dedicate daily time to newspapers and monthly magazines (e.g., Vision IAS, Insights).


Prepare notes topic-wise for quick revision.


3. Take Mock Tests Seriously


Attempt sectional tests early and full-length tests closer to Prelims.

March 2025


Start full-length tests for GS and CSAT.
